I Need Some Pansies

pansy pansies

The news has been so filled with information about the COVID-19 virus. I am taking it all very seriously. No cruise for me, not that I was going on one anyway. I guess I will skip a few other things, but I am not going to skip going to the garden center. For sure, this is a time for common sense and caution. Facts and knowledge should rule the day.

My soul needs to be away from all the news. What to believe, what not to believe. So much is out there. I will be getting my information directly from the CDC website. I think for me, I will wash my hands while singing Happy Birthday 2 times and try my best not to touch my face. If I am sick, I will stay home. But other than that, I am ready to get some pansies. I need to pot up my porch pots.

Are you like me? Walking outside, working in the garden, getting your hands dirty in fresh soil make my stress level go way down. I hope you stay well and go visit your local garden centers. Make new friends and find that perfect perennial that you have to have. This might be the right time to create your own oasis to relax this spring and summer as we are thinking that staying home might be the answer this year. Turn off the news and go play in the dirt. Stay calm and garden on!

Stephanie Fleming was raised at Behnke’s Nurseries in Beltsville. Her Mom, Sonja, was one of Albert & Rose Behnke’s four children. She was weeding from the moment she could walk and hiding as soon as she was old enough to run, so many weeds, so little time. Although she quickly learned how to pull out a perennial and get taken off of weed pulling duty.

  1. Hi Stephanie,

Following your suggestion from last Thursday, I purchased some Pansies and planted them near the mailbox in an old tractor tire at our farm here in Upper Marlboro. I used to get them at Behnkes but this year Wentworth in Charlotte Hall.

    Best,

    Dan
