Lynn and Sam Moore of Larriland Farms Pick Your Own Fruits & Vegetables

Recorded: August 4 – 2022 – In this episode of The Beyond Behnke’s Gardening Podcast, I chatted with my good friend, Lynn Moore, and her nephew Sam Moore. We chatted about their family pick-your-own business in Western Howard County, Maryland. Lynn and Sam explain what IPM (Integrated Pest Management) is and how it helps them on the farm, which is how they have outstanding fruits and vegetables to provide to their customers. We talk about the different events and fundraisers that Larriland promotes, along with how to find out just what is in season each day at the farm.

Recorded: July 7 – 2022 – In this episode of The Beyond Behnke’s Gardening Podcast, I talked with Alex Dencker about how he got started working at Behnke Nurseries and ended up 35 years later working for the Smithsonian Gardens as one of their horticulturists. Alex shares a few stories of his relationship with my grandfather, Albert Behnke, and why working at Behnke’s was such a wonderful experience. From the age of 18 till 25 years later, Alex worked pretty much every position at Behnke’s till he left to work at the Smithsonian.

Recorded: June 2 – 2022 – My guest on this episode of Beyond Behnke’s Gardening Podcast is Kate Fisher, the owner of The Bumbling Bee Apiary. Kate and her family live on a farm in Carroll County, Maryland, where she has taken her love of flowers and vegetables to learn about pollinators, which in turn led to beekeeping. Listen to how Kate decided to become a beekeeper and why. She explains the steps she went through to become a beekeeper. Plus, she shares her passion for pollinators and what we can do to support them.

Recorded: May 5 – 2022 – Every now and then, you happen to meet someone you just know you want to get to know better. That happened at the Maryland Spring Home & Garden Show when Peggy Riccio of Peg Plants stopped by my booth. Peggy is a garden writer, among many other things, that you can read about on her website (pegplant.com). I invited Peggy to be our guest on this episode of Beyond Behnke’s Gardening PodCast. We will discuss growing culinary herbs here in the DC metro area.

Recorded: April 7 – 2022 – Stephanie talks with Larry Hurley (Garden Writer and Perennial Plant Expert) about growing perennials in a shade garden and the many factors that affect how well a plant will grow for you. How much sunlight the plant receives in the location in which you plant it is just one of the factors. The effect of shade on growing a garden plant isn’t an “either-or” situation, taking the time to learn the requirements for growing a plant that appeals to you and matching them to the conditions that exist in your garden should result in success.

Recorded: March 3 – 2022 – I hope you enjoy this podcast. My guest is Kathy Jentz, someone that many of you already know. She is involved in so many things in the Maryland, DC area.
