Fall Is The Time For Fun

Chipmunk with nut

Fall is the time for harvesting, and October is packed with so much going on! Just last week, I shared about the Northern Lights, and now, a few days ago, many of us were lucky enough to spot a comet in the Western sky. And who else saw the Hunter’s Moon is only on Oct. 17, 2024? The largest and brightest moon of the year lit up our night sky!

While farmers are busy harvesting corn, soybeans, and other crops, many people are attending festivals and (hopefully) supporting independent garden centers. Everywhere I look, there are pumpkins for sale!

This past weekend, on a whim, my husband and I decided to take a quick overnight trip to beautiful Gettysburg. I wanted to see the Fall leaves, and we’ve always loved the drive up Rt. 15. It was a chance for us (okay, mostly me) to disconnect (yes, that meant putting away my phone and laptop!) and just enjoy being together. We didn’t do anything except drive around and reconnect.

A word of advice: always double-check online reservations… I accidentally booked our room for Friday night instead of Saturday. The hotel was fully booked, but fortunately, the place next door had a room, so all wasn’t lost! And props to Wyndham Gettysburg for not charging us for the missed night. Whew!

I hope you’re enjoying this Fall season with your loved ones. If you’re out enjoying the changing leaves, you might even see a little critter like this chipmunk I spotted at my mom’s house, gathering his Fall harvest too.

And if you’re looking for a fun Fall drive, stop by the Frederick Fair Grounds FiberFest this Saturday, October 26th! I’ll be in Building 9. Come say hi!

Stephanie Fleming

Stephanie Fleming was raised at Behnke’s Nurseries in Beltsville. Her Mom, Sonja, was one of Albert & Rose Behnke’s four children. She was weeding from the moment she could walk and hiding as soon as she was old enough to run, so many weeds, so little time. Although she quickly learned how to pull out a perennial and get taken off of weed pulling duty.
