And The Sale Goes On At Behnke’s

From Stephanie
I think years ago I might have shared these two photos of my grandfather, Albert Behnke, and his youngest son, Albert H. Behnke. Recently, while looking over so many of our old photos, I came across them and wanted to show them to everyone again.
This is the man who, along with his wife, Rose, started with next to nothing and turned this special piece of ground into what we all know and love as Behnke Nurseries. I wanted to show you the man I knew; the fun loving man who could always make me laugh and giggle. So many stories are out there on what a hard task masker he was and it’s very true. I know my mother and her brothers were expected to help run the company and do many of the endless chores around the home. The grandchildren were also expected to pull their weight. But there were many times we had fun. Maybe more because there was always something cool to get into, like learning to drive the tractors while sitting in his lap.
Along with so many others over the years, Albert and Rose spent their lives working here. As the garden center they created is now in its final few months, it is almost impossible to grasp what it meant to so many folks. They say life is about change and we are right now experiencing a very big change for our family, our employees and you, our wonderful customers who have been so very kind these last few weeks. Life will go on and we will all be the better for knowing each other and hopefully, like me, you can look back at some old photos and just smile.
