Aurora Borealis ~ Northern Lights

Were you one of the lucky ones last week who got to see the Northern Lights? Around 8 pm last Thursday, Oct. 10, my husband came to and said to look across the street at the barn. It looked like it was on fire. Of course, it was not. It was the most beautiful display of the Northern Lights. Right away, I called my daughter and my in-laws, who live next door, to check it out. The photo below was one my daughter, Jaimie, took. Her house is a little higher than mine, so her photographs are much better than mine.
As more folks across Maryland started sharing their photos, my cousin Jeanne told me that the purple/violet colors are very rare. Since I really do not know much about all of this, I decided to do a little research and find out more about this beautiful Aurora Northern Lights we were all blessed to see.
While the information I found is a lot to take in, I found it so interesting that after all these years of wanting to see the Northern Lights, I got to see some of the rarest colors. Check out this article from Perlan on the Colors Of The Northern Lights. If you took some photos of this last week and want to share them, I would love to see them.
The Aurora was a magical experience to witness. The colors, intensity, and patterns evolved as the evening progressed. I took several shots at the Howard County Conservancy. They are posted in the Featured galleries on my website:
