A Bug Night By The Pond

A Bug Night by the pond in a nearby park…

When I saw this in the park the other day, I was thinking of all the little folks going out for Trick or Treat. (My nine year old nephew reports he garnered 9.5 pounds of goodies in his Trick or Treat bag last year. I hope a lot of that weight was from apples.)

I can just imagine a conversation between a couple of juvenile spiders (speaking in Spider, of course): “So, what if we spin a couple of webs at that streetlight over by the pond? I bet we’d catch so many bugs we’d eat until we explode.”

If you zoom in on the image you’ll see it’s actually about a million gnats of some sort or other trapped in a spider web. Good eatin’, if you’re a spider. Come for the lights, stay for the web.

Stephanie Fleming

Stephanie Fleming was raised at Behnke’s Nurseries in Beltsville. Her Mom, Sonja, was one of Albert & Rose Behnke’s four children. She was weeding from the moment she could walk and hiding as soon as she was old enough to run, so many weeds, so little time. Although she quickly learned how to pull out a perennial and get taken off of weed pulling duty.
