A few months ago, I shared with you the story of beginning gardeners Adrienne and Cordelia Neff’s Victory Garden. At the time, they had planned out the garden and got their seeds, put up a fence, and got to work.
I love ETSY! The whole idea that you can pretty much find anything on it and know for the most part it will be coming from a small business. For me, these gardening t-shirts have caught my eye.
I have written before about all of the store fixtures that many of you bought before we closed. So many have shared what they used them for, which has been fantastic.
One thing that came out of the closing of Behnke’s was getting to know Vincent. When we announced we would be closing the nursery, he was among the first to start asking about purchasing some of the fixtures around the nursery.
Are you like me and have deer that come out at night and eat all the buds off of your daylilies before they even bloom? This year has been the worst, but then we did not put up the deer tape as we have done in the past.

With social distancing and everything that goes with it, I am not sure about you, but I am past ready to hug someone other than my husband.
Behnke’s closed just over a year ago, and I took advantage of that to retire. So, I’ve been home a lot more than I used to be, but then again, so is nearly everyone else.
How can it be one year already? One year since we closed the gate for good. So much has happened during this year, but one thing remains the same. You! Our readers/customers and our extended Behnke family.
Let me tell you about an exceptional person. His name was Allen Doong, and he worked at Behnke’s for over 25 years. In fact, Al actually started out doing manual labor at the nursery with some of his high school friends in the 1980’s.
