Longwood Gardens

Today, while scrolling on Facebook (no judgment, please), I came across these 4 beautiful photos of orchids. First, I thought oh wow, it is getting close to the time that the National Capital Orchid Society (NCOS) will have its Annual Orchid Show and Sale. By the way, this is coming up on February 16-18 at Homestead Gardens. Then I read the post and saw that they were from Longwood Gardens. (I made the graphic below)
I went to Longwood Gardens a while ago on a bus trip that a bunch of us from Behnke’s took. Kathy Jentz with Washington Gardener Magazine put the trip together during the Christmas season and I recall loving the orchids in their conservatory. It was my first trip there. And I am sorry to say I have not been back. I am hoping to change that. Now that I am retired, I want to go during each season. The problem for me is actually going. A bus trip might be the best bet for me.
I went ahead today and checked out their website. It is full of many different events and classes, which, if you are planning a trip, you really should check out. I saw that their Winter Wonder goes from January 20 – March 24, and one thing coming up first is their Camellia House, which is open till January 28. I have always loved camellias even though I have never had any luck with them where I live.
If you get the chance this year, take a day to visit Longwood Gardens. Let me know if you do, and send pictures! If you have already gone, tell me what season you loved the most!
