Merry Christmas And Happy New Year

Fireworks LaPlata, MD 2024

As the year comes to a close, I want to take a moment to wish you all the joys of the season. Merry Christmas to those celebrating, and to everyone, may this special time of year bring peace, warmth, and happiness to your heart and home.

Our Beyond Behnke’s newsletter will be taking a short holiday break and returning on January 9th, 2025!

Thank you for being part of my journey this year—I’m so grateful for each of you. Wishing you a wonderful holiday season and a bright, beautiful New Year!

The past few months have been a whirlwind! A big thank-you to everyone who visited me at the various craft shows I participated in. This year’s season wrapped up with the Kris Kringle Christmas Market in La Plata, and last weekend was truly the highlight of it all!

I was fortunate to have the amazing support of Behnke’s Best, Aleta—Behnke’s former IT manager—and also my husband. Both were instrumental in making the event a success. On Saturday night, over 9,000 people filled the Charles County Fairgrounds to shop for Christmas treasures and enjoy the most breathtaking fireworks show I’ve ever seen. If you couldn’t make it this year, mark your calendar—it’s an event not to be missed next year.

One of the true joys of the market was reconnecting with so many of Behnke’s Best, from former employees to loyal customers. Hearing your cherished memories of Behnke Nurseries always makes my heart happy and reaffirms why I love what I do.

I also want to thank two other Behnke’s Best, without whom I couldn’t manage this email. Larry Hurley, who has a passion for editing and writing—you’ve probably enjoyed many of his wonderful articles—and Larry Bristow, who works tirelessly behind the scenes as my webmaster to keep everything running smoothly. I’m so grateful for their support!

Stephanie Fleming

Stephanie Fleming was raised at Behnke’s Nurseries in Beltsville. Her Mom, Sonja, was one of Albert & Rose Behnke’s four children. She was weeding from the moment she could walk and hiding as soon as she was old enough to run, so many weeds, so little time. Although she quickly learned how to pull out a perennial and get taken off of weed pulling duty.
