More Local Independent Garden Centers To Visit

WOW! Last week when I asked for other garden centers that you liked, I got a few more!!
How could I have forgotten to mention Frank’s Produce & Greenhouse, which I went to last Spring? Thank you, Jan, for reminding me. Or The Dutch Plant Farm up in Frederick? I last went to The Dutch Plant Farm years ago, but Michele assured me it is a great place to go. Michele also mentioned I should visit Meehan’s Miniatures in Rohrersville, MD (affordable starter and mature Bonsai).
Beth mentioned we should visit the Amish nurseries in Lovesville, MD. Stauffer’s, Zimmerman’s, and Green Acres! She says their prices are great, and they have the best summer produce. Beth suggests that while we are there, we should have lunch in Leonardtown and view the public art in the middle of town. Thank you, Beth!
Then, there is Fehr’s Nursery in Burtonsville, off of Rt. 198! Thank you, Marlene, for that reminder. Geeze, my grandfather, Albert Behnke, would be shaking his head that I forgot to mention Fehr’s! Walter Fehr and Albert Behnke were such good friends.
While some of these places are close to where Behnke’s was in Beltsville, others are a bit of a drive. That said, sometimes driving to the country is just what we need. Unhook ourselves (except for the navigation system) and enjoy the scenery as we explore new places.
Zimmerman’s Greenhouse and Green Acres in Loveville, MD are indeed wonderful garden nurseries to visit. Green Acres usually has a very good selection of perennials and herb and vegetable plants and Zimmerman’s is stocked with everything you will need for your spring and summer garden plus houseplants, cactus and beautiful produce plus much more! When you are there be sure to say hi to Mr. Stauffer’s pup, “Friskie”.
I am going to try to plan a trip soon.
