O’ Christmas Tree

Last Saturday, I finally sort of got our Christmas tree up. This may have been the latest I have ever waited to put it up, but up it went. For some reason, I was not feeling up to decorating our home for Christmas.
I blamed the weather, I blamed that I had not felt well, and most of all, I blamed the cat. Not that Mr. Teddy has ever really attacked our tree in the past two years. While he is curious (what cat isn’t?), and yes, he bats at the ornaments that are down low. (I keep the non-breakables on the lower branches) I did see evidence of a few felt ornaments I have had since childhood lying on the floor in another room. For the most part, he leaves the tree alone.
So why did I not want to put up our tree? Maybe because it seems like such a lot of work for just the two of us. All this said, my husband had enough of me going back and forth on whether we should even bother, and on Saturday, up the tree came! And all the boxes of ornaments! Two of our grandkids spent a few minutes putting on a few ornaments till they left for home, but slowly, we got everything up.
Last was the beautiful large tree skirt I bought a few years ago. As we both were lying on the floor pushing and pulling, we heard a crash, and down came my angel. Ugh! Like Humpy Dumpty, she broke her crown. Or was that Jack and Jill? All I know is her head went rolling across the floor, and our cat just looked at me as if to say, “I so did not do that.”
Interestingly, I did not get upset. My husband said he had some crazy glue and might be able to fix it. I said no, it was time to bring out another angel for our tree. And what do you know! I had a few more. So the tree is up. I still need to dig out my icicles (all hand-blown from Germany), and maybe this year, I will add my antique garland beads.
I am just about ready for Christmas. Presents have been hidden away to be wrapped Christmas Eve, cookies ordered (last year, I ordered Christmas Cookies from Sweet Roll of Mt. Airy, a local baker, and they were fantastic!), the house is somewhat clean, and I am enjoying my beautiful Christmas tree for another year.
I have found that when you least feel like doing something like decorating for the holidays, maybe that is the time you really need to do it. We will enjoy looking at our tree for a few more weeks. Now, if I can finish my Christmas cards.

Your cat is adorable! And glad you got your tree up! Merry Christmas!
Your 2011 post about feeding birds popped up when I was researching what to deter a bully blue jay that had taken over my feeder from goldfinches. Moving back to Nyjer seed. Still open to suggestions. This is a great site.
