I have been invited to chat with Donna Schnider, President of the Prince George’s County Historical Society, about the early years of Behnke Nurseries.

I am excited and nervous about being part of their monthly History Chat. I will be sharing about my grandparents, Albert & Rose Behnke, and their journey to America, which ended with them starting one of the most beloved garden centers.

Growing up in Prince George’s County right on the nursery, I was lucky to live in the little brick house on the property. While Behnke Nurseries is no longer there, I love that there is still interest in the history of this fantastic place I called home.

This talk will be on Zoom this Monday, April 22, 2024, and is open to everyone who wishes to listen! You can also go to their YouTube Channel to listen to past chats about the history of Prince George’s County.

Stephanie Fleming

Stephanie Fleming was raised at Behnke’s Nurseries in Beltsville. Her Mom, Sonja, was one of Albert & Rose Behnke’s four children. She was weeding from the moment she could walk and hiding as soon as she was old enough to run, so many weeds, so little time. Although she quickly learned how to pull out a perennial and get taken off of weed pulling duty.
