Remington’s Behnke’s Veggie Pizza

Remington’s in Beltsville, Maryland
Remington’s is a little restaurant a few blocks down from where Behnke’s was. This is where many of us would go for a good lunch or after-work get-together. Their quote, Where Good Food + Good Drinks + Good People = Good Times was spot on.
We had so many good times there, and since we closed in 2019, many still go and meet up. I had not been there for a while, and typically, when I go, I love to get their club sandwich!! Which is amazing! But last week, while there with Anita Gardner, Patrica Bouton, John Reed, and Marian Parsley, it was suggested we have The Behnke’s Veggie Pie! WHAT? When did that happen? We have a pizza named after us! A Veggie one to boot!!
That makes sense since we sold so many vegetable plants!! I thought they were pulling my leg, but right there on their menu, there it was! It did give me pause to think that we meant so much to a business that they took the time to name something after us.
Even better, hanging on the wall is the one item that Behnke Best employee Hank Doong requested when the nursery closed. It was a photo of my grandfather, Albert Behnke, in his REO delivery truck in front of Sally Lewis’s House on Wicomico Ave. That house is still standing even though Behnke’s is now gone. And that photo hung by our office door for a very long time. Hank gave the picture to Remington’s, and they hung it over the area we always take over when we gather there!
So, if you are ever in the area and want a bite to eat, stop by Remington’s, order the Behnke Veggie Pie, and say the folks at Behnke’s sent you! You won’t be sorry you did!

I love such heartwarming stories! We’re going to go and try it! Thanks for the tip.
