What Is Your New Year’s Tradition?

New Years Traditional Foods
What traditions do you have, if any, on New Year’s Day?

For us, my husband’s grandfather always knocked on our door early in the morning on New Year’s Day. I will never forget forty-four years ago, Granddad Bowman knocking on our front door EARLY to wish us a Happy New Year—something he continued for many years. It is good luck to have the year’s first visitor be a man. Who knew? Not me! Now, my father-in-law comes a knocking, although my grandson beat him this year.

I also have to cook black-eyed peas. We started doing this a few years ago when my husband read something about it. What about you? What are some of your New Year’s Traditions? Last year, I wrote about shaking a chimney sweep hand for Good Luck in Germany! I love hearing different traditions! Check out these New Year traditions from around the world.

I hope you all have a happy and healthy 2024!

Stephanie Fleming was raised at Behnke’s Nurseries in Beltsville. Her Mom, Sonja, was one of Albert & Rose Behnke’s four children. She was weeding from the moment she could walk and hiding as soon as she was old enough to run, so many weeds, so little time. Although she quickly learned how to pull out a perennial and get taken off of weed pulling duty.
