Remembering Becky Beaver

This week, we said goodbye to yet another of Behnke’s Best.
Our friend and co-worker Becky Beaver passed away at her home on July 21st after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Those of us who knew and loved Becky know how much she loved working at Behnke’s in the Perennial Department and the Christmas Shop. With a smile, Becky would always greet each day with a can-do attitude. You would find her unloading trucks in the sun or rain and helping all of our customers with a smile. But for me, it was all about Becky and Christmas. She managed the shop and helped everyone, including me, learn how to make the famous Behnke Bow. Becky would also create most of the large Advent wreaths that churches ordered from us. Like so many others at Behnke’s, Becky loved everything Christmas and her plants. Her garden at home reflected this as her plants burst with color throughout the seasons.
Many of you would have had conversations with Becky outside in the perennial department. She could always be depended upon to find the right solutions for your gardens. For those of us who worked alongside her, she was one of the “Hostesses with the Mostess.” She helped organize all of our employee parties and events, and when she brought her homemade brownies and fudge, word would travel fast throughout the garden center to hurry back to the lunch room before they were all gone.
One thing I always loved about Becky was our conversations about our husbands, kids, and grandchildren. How very proud Becky was of her family and friends. Always off on one adventure or the other, it was so much fun to hear her talk about what went on.
I will never forget my friend Becky Beaver. Till we meet again in that garden in the sky.
Becky was always kind, thoughtful, and positive about everything. I never heard her say an unkind word, and she was a great sales associate who was there to help customers with their questions. I considered her as a wonderful friend.
Hi Christopher! You are so right! One in a million she was!
I still have the bow she made for a Christmas wreath for my late husband who died in 2012. I treasure it
Thank you Susan for sharing one of your memories of Becky. She really knew how to make the Behnke Bow..
