A Little Summer Break (But I’m Not Going Anywhere!)

Teddy’s fence-side wisdom: time to slow down and enjoy a summer break
Teddy’s fence-side wisdom: time to slow down and enjoy a summer break

It’s hard to believe, but June 15th marks six years since Behnke’s closed. Even before that, I was writing these emails, sharing gardening tips, memories, and little bits of life with you. It’s become such a special part of my routine, and I’m so grateful for all of you who have stayed along for the journey 💚

This summer, I’ve decided to give myself a little break… and give Larry Hurley (my editor, and master of all things plant-related—with a side of humor!) a breather too. And of course, Larry Bristow, who helps keep me sane with all things internet and website-related, probably deserves a little downtime as well! Although, is there really any downtime with the internet?

But don’t worry, I’m not going anywhere! I’ll still be sending out one email each month this summer, and I’ll be back to a more regular schedule September 4th, just in time for fall planting season

In the meantime, our website will still be up and running, and I’ll continue sharing updates and garden fun over on the Behnke Facebook page. I’d love for you to stop by and say hi.

Thank you so much for being part of this little thing I do.

Your support and encouragement mean more to me than I can say.

With love,

Stephanie 💙

Stephanie Fleming

Stephanie Fleming was raised at Behnke’s Nurseries in Beltsville. Her Mom, Sonja, was one of Albert & Rose Behnke’s four children. She was weeding from the moment she could walk and hiding as soon as she was old enough to run, so many weeds, so little time. Although she quickly learned how to pull out a perennial and get taken off of weed pulling duty.

  1. Always enjoy your Behnke’s emails. We have fond memories of years of shopping at Behnke’s Nursery.
