Behnke Nurseries Will Be Having a Public Auction

Behnke Nurseries final gate closing on June 15th, 2019

From Stephanie

Here we are closing the front gate for the last time and we did it together. What a wild ride this has been and from the bottom of our hearts we thank you for your kindness to all of us during this time. While we were walking to the gate last Saturday cars were driving by honking their horns yelling, “we love you Behnke’s” What a way to go out!

Last week I mentioned if you want to keep getting our emails and blog posts you would need to sign up. My bad. Apparently you are already signed up. However if you would like to opp out you can do that at the link on the bottom of any of our emails. I am planning on keeping the same day and time to send out the emails. Thursday mornings.

Once I start writing about other garden centers it will give you the time to plan a weekend visit. I will also be writing about different events going on in our area with the different plant clubs and garden societies along with some great gardens you might want to visit. I am pretty excited about this next stage in my life and I hope to get suggestions from all of you on other things you might be interested in. Of course, I will be adding things about my growing family and some of the history of my grandparents, the Behnke’s.

Today’s big announcement is Behnke Nurseries is going to be having a public auction on Sunday, July 21, 2019 on site. Unfortunately or fortunately since we won’t have to water them for the next month you all bought every plant on the property except some of the landscaping plants in the ground. So Cochran Auctions will be selling everything that was left. I mean everything! From our really tall flag poll to customer carts and production carts.

We will have tools and vehicles. There will be office supplies and furniture along with all the cool fixtures that we have had for decorating the nursery for years. The Beltsville Lion’s Club will be coming out to sell food and drinks. Plus, I will be sharing these next few weeks some special items from my family that we will auction off to benefit the Prince Georges County Police Young Explorers Post 600.

See you at the auction!

Behnke Nurseries

Stephanie Fleming was raised at Behnke’s Nurseries in Beltsville. Her Mom, Sonja, was one of Albert & Rose Behnke’s four children. She was weeding from the moment she could walk and hiding as soon as she was old enough to run, so many weeds, so little time. Although she quickly learned how to pull out a perennial and get taken off of weed pulling duty.
