Happy New Year!

It’s 2017!  I am really looking forward to this year. Every year I make resolutions and, like many, I don’t keep them. This year, I didn’t make a one.  I decided to just live my life and take each day as a blessing and enjoy my family and friends while making new friends. One can never have too many friends. Maybe that was a resolution?

Next week, I leave for Atlanta on my yearly buying trip. I love my job; I get to be around wonderful people everyday all who have a love of plants and people. Then I get to buy for all the holiday seasons coming up. In Atlanta, besides all the new Christmas items, I will be checking out new products for our homes and gardens. Plus, I am hoping to revamp our whole fairy garden area.  Fairy gardens have really taken off these last few years. Maybe they bring back memories of when we were little and had our doll houses and imaginary friends? I don’t know, but I love all the little items that they come out with. I had hoped my grandson would enjoy the little things I brought  home to place under the pine tree but maybe he was too young or he just likes riding on his tractor so much more. But now with our little granddaughter, Zoe, about to be 1 year old I will be attempting again to create a magical grandmother’s garden complete with tiny little creatures and of course tractors and trucks for Aaron. I am thinking his match box tractors will fit right in the fairy garden. The little fairies will enjoy driving them when the children go home.

Stephanie Fleming was raised at Behnke’s Nurseries in Beltsville. Her Mom, Sonja, was one of Albert & Rose Behnke’s four children. She was weeding from the moment she could walk and hiding as soon as she was old enough to run, so many weeds, so little time. Although she quickly learned how to pull out a perennial and get taken off of weed pulling duty.
