What Is Blooming In October

zoe

This week my granddaughter, Zoe, and I walked around the yard exploring. Fall brings so many things, but what is always exciting is finding so many of our favorite plants still blooming. Looking at things from the eyes of a four-year-old always brings a new perspective to these old eyes.

How does she manage to find each acorn or beetle? She can spot a praying mantis a mile away. Some of you know that my husband and I are very blessed to live next door to my daughter and her family. She bought my in-laws’ home when they moved next door to my husband’s grandmother’s house.

During this time of social distancing, it has been difficult for all of us, but at least we could see the children playing in their back yard. Now, as things are more relaxed, we find a lot of enjoyment in the little things. The major one is finding joy outdoors. I hope you are enjoying seeing beauty in your garden too.

Stephanie Fleming

Stephanie Fleming was raised at Behnke’s Nurseries in Beltsville. Her Mom, Sonja, was one of Albert & Rose Behnke’s four children. She was weeding from the moment she could walk and hiding as soon as she was old enough to run, so many weeds, so little time. Although she quickly learned how to pull out a perennial and get taken off of weed pulling duty.
