Where are all the plants?

Good question! They are in the gardens of everyone who has stopped in to say goodbye and needed just one more thing. But have no fear. As I mentioned last week, our buyers have been working non-stop reordering everything we need for this Spring, and we will continue to reorder through the busy season.

Our Annual Department has local growers bringing in plants every day. Perennials will be arriving all week long as will trees and shrubs. Houseplants seem to “disappear” as soon as we set them down but no fear, our buyer has a tractor-trailer arriving as I type, and more on the way. Then we need to talk about our garden shop. Yes, we are getting more products. Tools and gloves and so much more will be arriving early this week and we are going to get them out for sale as fast as we can.

Kudos to the best staff in the world as they work non-stop getting plants and products priced and out for sale while trying to help as many customers as they can. If they seem tired, well they are! But they know that this is the time that you–our wonderful loyal customers–want to plant. Please be patient as they answer your questions and help others waiting. They are doing the best they can.

Once again, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kind words these past two weeks. We love you too and are so very grateful that you and your families have shopped with us for generations.

Finally, I want to wish everyone a safe and happy Easter. We will be closing at 5pm on Easter Sunday so our staff can get home to their families.

See you at the garden center!

Behnke Nurseries, VP

Stephanie Fleming was raised at Behnke’s Nurseries in Beltsville. Her Mom, Sonja, was one of Albert & Rose Behnke’s four children. She was weeding from the moment she could walk and hiding as soon as she was old enough to run, so many weeds, so little time. Although she quickly learned how to pull out a perennial and get taken off of weed pulling duty.
