Flowering Cherry Trees in Bloom

Flowering Cherry Trees have gorgeous spring flowers… they are one of the first trees to bloom and people come from all over the country to see the cherries in bloom in Washington. Plant one yourself for your own Cherry Blossom Festival.

They have multi-season interest, with great fall foliage color – oranges, scarlets and yellows and interesting bark. Plus, fast growth – over 1′ per year is typical.

We have ‘Okame’ (pink) and ‘First Lady’ (deep pink) in bloom now at our Garden Centers. Also some ‘Autumnalis’, a pale pink/white cherry that blooms spring and fall. Other cherry varieties in stock bloom later and are nicely budded and ready to go.

Cherry trees need full sun and well-drained soil…they also can benefit from a yearly application of garden lime.

Stephanie Fleming was raised at Behnke’s Nurseries in Beltsville. Her Mom, Sonja, was one of Albert & Rose Behnke’s four children. She was weeding from the moment she could walk and hiding as soon as she was old enough to run, so many weeds, so little time. Although she quickly learned how to pull out a perennial and get taken off of weed pulling duty.
