Halloween Is Coming!

I love Halloween! I love Fall! The whole season leading up to Thanksgiving always made me extremely happy. The thing is, as my children grew up and left home and started families of their own, I somehow stopped getting so excited. Some of the fun stuff leading up to Halloween just did not mean as much as it did before. In the last few years, I only put some pumpkins out on the porch when decorating for Fall. I stopped carving since there just did not seem any reason for it. My grandchildren carve their pumpkins with their parents as they should.

Then while scrolling on Facebook the other day, this photo appeared! OH MY! I loved it. Who in the world comes up with these things? It really has made me want to try it, so my plan this weekend is to go buy my pumpkins and try. I have paint, I have a carving knife onward! But something else happened when I saw this picture. I started thinking of the upcoming holiday season and how my family would handle it with COVID 19 out and about.

I am really not comfortable with having large family gatherings yet. So I have been searching PINTREST to find different activities that my grandchildren can do outside with their parents on Halloween. Hopefully, it will be nice weather, and maybe a small Halloween party could be the ticket. This unique jack o lantern will be the perfect centerpiece if it works out.

I hope you are finding ways to enjoy the Fall. I know there are many great outdoor things for families to do while social distancing. There are corn mazes to go through, apples to pick, and scarecrows to make. What is your family doing this Fall? Whatever you do, take pictures and have fun.

Stephanie Fleming; Beyond Behnkes

Stephanie Fleming was raised at Behnke’s Nurseries in Beltsville. Her Mom, Sonja, was one of Albert & Rose Behnke’s four children. She was weeding from the moment she could walk and hiding as soon as she was old enough to run, so many weeds, so little time. Although she quickly learned how to pull out a perennial and get taken off of weed pulling duty.
