Profusion of Pink Fringe from Nature Hills Nursery

Dianthus ‘Firewitch’, a cultivar of Dianthus gratianopolitanus, is a beautiful pink flower that can be somewhat lacy and fringed. With its grassy blue-gray foliage and profuse blooming time, ‘Firewitch’ is one not to miss!

This Dianthus will bloom most heavily in mid-to-late spring. If the summer is mild, you may be able to extend the blooming season by deadheading (removing the spent flowers.)

Dianthus needs a sunny site with well-drained soil, but will tolerate some shade in the afternoon and humidity. These fragrant, spicy dove-like flowers look wonderful as a border plant, rock gardens, along walks or paths, for edging and a definite in cottage gardens.

Regular watering during prolonged dry spells will be necessary. However, this plant is tolerant of short periods of dryness. ‘Firewitch’ provides showers of cheerful, charming, lacy flowers that become a truly great addition to any perennial garden!

We have partnered up with Nature Hills Nursery, which is an online shipper of plant material and they carry a selection of perennials like this dianthus. Of course, I always recommend going directly to your local independent garden center to pick out your plants, but sometimes (very rarely) they just might be out of what you’re wanting, or maybe you are looking for a specialty item.

Stephanie Fleming was raised at Behnke’s Nurseries in Beltsville. Her Mom, Sonja, was one of Albert & Rose Behnke’s four children. She was weeding from the moment she could walk and hiding as soon as she was old enough to run, so many weeds, so little time. Although she quickly learned how to pull out a perennial and get taken off of weed pulling duty.
