Save The Date! December 13th – 15th

Yes, I know it is way too early to talk about Christmas. However, if our garden center were still open, the Christmas Shop would be in full swing. Many of you know from my posts last June that we sold all of our fixtures during the summer. Along the way, I met the sweetest couple who help run The Kris Kringle Christmas Market at the Charles County Fairgrounds. They ended up buying almost everything Christmas from Behnke’s, including our one of a kind ‘Santa Bench.’ I am now signed up to be a vendor at this Christmas Market. The money raised from the admission benefits three local nonprofits while keeping the event going.

What will I be selling, you might ask? Why Behnke Bows! Well, everyone knows a Behnke Bow is simply the best bow ever! Plus, I am ALL ABOUT THE BOWS (this is a link to a really cool video we did at Behnke’s, enjoy!) We had so much ribbon leftover from last year’s Christmas Shop that I just put it all away for this event. Some of Behnke’s Elves have promised to stop in and help also, including Adrienne, the designer of the Santa Bench. I am so excited about this opportunity. It will be so much fun to get out and see everyone.

Most of you know how much I love Christmas. For me, it is the most wonderful time of the year–if you could take out the snow and cold. That said, I met someone who is so into Christmas and the whole magical aspect of it. Larry and Christi Lathrop, and others give so much back to their community. They love everything Christmas. I drove to La Plata, MD, on Monday to check out just what I was getting myself into. I was given the grand tour and along the way saw all of Behnke’s past Christmas decorations just waiting to be put in place. These folks spend all their free time decorating the fairgrounds.

I hope to see you one of the days at this event! There is going to be so much to see and do at this family-friendly event. There will be vendors selling handmade works by local artists and crafters, live Christmas music, food, activities for children, fireworks, and more. You will be able to see what crafters will be there on the Charles County Fair website. Watch their short video about the Kris Kringle Christmas Market below to start feeling the excitement like I am.

by Stephanie Fleming, Beyond Behnke’s

Stephanie Fleming was raised at Behnke’s Nurseries in Beltsville. Her Mom, Sonja, was one of Albert & Rose Behnke’s four children. She was weeding from the moment she could walk and hiding as soon as she was old enough to run, so many weeds, so little time. Although she quickly learned how to pull out a perennial and get taken off of weed pulling duty.
