Meadows Farms ~ Plant a Little Happiness!℠

Meadows Farms Greg and Anita

Last week, I was on my way to Beltsville and decided to stop in at Meadows Farms in Burtonsville. I was not sure if former Behnke’s Best Anita and Greg were working that afternoon but I wanted to see that new greenhouse I had heard about.

I love the sign they have as you walk in, “Plant a little happiness!” Isn’t that the truth! I think that one of the best things in life is our ability to do just that. Even if it is only a houseplant or two. Walking into their new BIG greenhouse was like a blast from the past. There in her red shirt was Anita watering, just like in the old days. And in the other aisle was Greg. It was so nice to see these two and chat for a while. I had to laugh when Anita pulled her name tag aside. Which was covering her Behnke Red Polo WOMANS shirt. Oh, the time we had in picking out just the right Polo shirts that would fit the women back in the day.

All the plants that I saw looked fantastic. Nice big full 6″ pots of annuals and the outside areas looked just as healthy. There were plenty of choices to be had if you have a spot you want to fill with some happiness!!

June is always a funny month. The ending of Spring and Summer around the corner. Many have already planted their annuals in their gardens. Time to start thinking about graduation parties and with COVID 19 settling down we are finally being about to get together with our friends and family. Independent family-owned garden centers always provide their customers with a little larger plants in June to help fill in spots in the garden.

Looking at the selection that Meadows Farms had, I know they are definitely looking out for their customers. They had an enormous selection of hanging baskets. I know I will be going back down this coming Saturday and have already made plans to stop in for a few baskets.
So here you go, another local garden center that has what you need along with two of Behnke’s Best! Anita and Greg. Stop by and say hello. Tell them Stephanie sent you.

Stephanie Fleming was raised at Behnke’s Nurseries in Beltsville. Her Mom, Sonja, was one of Albert & Rose Behnke’s four children. She was weeding from the moment she could walk and hiding as soon as she was old enough to run, so many weeds, so little time. Although she quickly learned how to pull out a perennial and get taken off of weed pulling duty.
